The regional offices maintain the agency’s nationwide presence, attract leaders and donors to AJC, enhance the agency’s influence with key local, national and international decision makers and stakeholders, implement advocacy initiatives at the state/local level, establish and nurture community relationships, and serve as AJC’s eyes and ears on the ground.
This position is located in Long Island with work from home with frequent in person interaction with Regional Office Director, lay leaders, prospective donors, political, diplomatic and interfaith/intergroup interlocutors, and others on Long Island.
The Assistant Director will assist the Regional Director in the implementation of strategic goals and objectives in coordination with the regional board. He/she will provide conceptual, logistical, organizational and administrative support for all office programs and activities. He/she will assist with the recruitment and development of local and national AJC leadership including younger members, as well as assist with the implementation of fundraising activities.

Responsibilities include:
Fundraising
• Assist Director and lay leadership with all aspects of fundraising
• Assist with donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
• Initiate and go on regular prospect meetings to broaden AJC’s Marshall Society and National Leadership Council
• Conduct research on potential honorees and donors
• Provide support to ensure that fundraising events run smoothly

Leadership Development
• Assist the Director in recruiting and cultivating leaders in the Jewish community for involvement with AJC
• Work well with, motivate and support lay leadership
• Recruit participants for national and regional programs
• Guide and manage committees of lay leaders
• Develop and help manage emerging leadership programs to attract the next generation of Jewish philanthropists and activists to be involved with AJC
• Supervision of interns

Program Development and Implementation
• Develop programs in collaboration with director and lay leadership; implement independently and collaboratively
• Manage all program logistics including securing venue and working with vendors
• Manage coordination of travel arrangements for visiting speakers
• Develop program budgets
• Ensure programs run smoothly by overseeing all onsite functions
• Create and distribute all necessary marketing materials including invitations, flyers, emails, and event program

Community Relations
• Work with the Director and lay leadership to establish and maintain relationships with important AJC constituencies including political, government, diplomatic, media, ethnic and religious groups
• Represent AJC as needed at external meetings with partner agencies, in the community and on boards and speak publicly on behalf of AJC when requested
• Establish and maintain relationships with important AJC constituencies in consultation with the Director
• Stay abreast, and keep others informed, of news and analysis on issues of importance to AJC, including reading local Long Island publications on a daily basis
• Maintain online presence for regional office through regional website, social media and email

Advocacy
• Assist with advocacy efforts including monitoring legislation, outreach to community leaders, representatives of foreign governments and local state and federal officials
• Form coalitions with other groups on issues of mutual concern
• Coordinate and lead advocacy meetings, including recruiting lay leadership, building an agenda and requesting background materials, assist with guiding the meeting, take notes and follow up with interlocutor

Communications
• Update regional office website
• Draft press releases
• Create and publish office newsletter
• Write letters to the editor/op-eds
• Create action alerts and other email correspondence to engage membership and community
• Develop and improve relationships with media
• Input data in Raiser’s Edge database

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Five or more years of relevant work experience preferred
• Passion for AJC’s mission (including Israel, combating antisemitism and promoting pluralism and democratic values)
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Ability to creatively and practically solve problems
• Ability to multi-task and work on many projects simultaneously
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with staff and lay leadership
• Ability to work effectively under pressure, make tough decisions and follow through on
agreed upon initiatives
• Ability to develop and implement programs
• An entrepreneurial mindset; able to identify and pursue opportunities
• Excellent project management skills, ability to manage data and develop, implement and
oversee budget
• A self-starter, willing to take initiative
• Works well with diverse constituencies
• Familiarity and previous work with Long Island’s Jewish, political and interfaith/intergroup
communities are a plus
• Respect for and adherence to confidentiality
• Experience with social media and website maintenance
• Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Applications
• Availability for early morning, evening and weekend meetings

Long Island resident with long term plans to stay on Long Island highly preferred
